Sean Penn gets Oscar for Best Actor

Sean Penn got the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role, the movie that got him the award was ‘Milk’. The 48-year-old played the role of the late Harvey Milk who was an American politician and a gay rights activist.

Sean Penn is also the ex-husband of pop star Madonna. He had also won an Oscar for Best Actor for the 2003 American movie ‘Mystic River’.

Man on Wire gets Oscar for Best Documentary Film

The James Marsh directed ‘Man on Wire’ has won the 81st Academy Award for the Best Documentary Film. The 90-minute documentary is about Philippe Petit’s high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The World Trade Center was destroyed by the Al-Qaeda during the September 11 attacks in 2001. This documentary ‘Man on Wire’ features footage from the events of Frenchman Philippe Petit’s 1974 high-wire walk along with the homework that he had done to achieve the feat.

Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film goes to the Japanese Movie Departures

The 81st Academy Award for the Best Foreign Film went to the Japanese movie Departures which was directed by Yojiro Takita. The movie stars Masahiro Motoki, Ryoko Hirosue, Tsutomu Yamazaki and others. This Oscar winning movie was written by Kundo Koyama.

Slumdog Millionaire bags eight Oscars!

Slumdog Millionaire bagged as many as eight Oscar Awards including the biggest that of being the Best Film. The movie was nominated for ten Academy awards and it was virtually a clean sweep for Director Danny Boyle and his crew.

The Director of Slumdog Millionaire – Danny Boyle, who himself got the Oscar for Best Director was humble enough to admit his mistake of not crediting a choreographer in the movie. An Indian by the name Longinus Fernandes had choreographed the Oscar Award winning song ‘Jai Ho’ which appears at the end of the film. (more…)
