The problem of Over Weight

There is a steady increase in the percentage of the people who are getting overweight due to overeating of the calorie rich foods like the fast foods and due to lack of physical activities mainly. They spend only a very few calories for their physical activity when compared to the calories they consume. Majority of the Americans possess the cars and they spend very little time for walking. They do very little manual labour and they depend mostly on the machines for every work.

Why do people put on Weight???

Everyone has to know why the weight gain occurs?
Excess gain of weight is due to the imbalance between the food intake and caloric expenditure as energy. It may be either in maintaining the basic metabolic processes which are necessary to sustain life or in performing the physical activities. Calories if not spent by any of the ways is converted to fat and get accumulated in the body as fat or adipose tissue.
A calorie is the measurement of the energy available in the given food. It describes the amount of energy which is potentially available in a given food. It is also used to describe the amount of energy the body must use for performing a given function. (more…)

What can be done to reduce calories slowly?

We need to control the intake of calories slowly by following some below mentioned tips:

  • The food consisting of oil, fats and carbohydrates have high amount of calories, so if we consume the food  containing oil, fats and carbohydrates we consume high calories. Each tea spoonful of oil has 45 calories and one table spoonful of oil has 135 calories. So we have to reduce the amount of oil in breakfasts and in preparing curries, so that we can reduce some calories.
  • Ground nuts contains high percentage of calories. In breakfasts like idli or dosa, we can have tomato pickle or ginger pickle instead of groundnut pickle. If we follow this, we can reduce about 150 calories.
