Melanoma Treated Patients More Likely to Get Other Types of Cancers

Melanoma is a malignant tumour of the skin usually caused by exposure of sun more seen in Caucasian population than the other ethnic groups. It is the result of un controlled proliferation of melanocytes (Pigment cells). Melanomas are generally treated surgically removing the tumour, chemotherapy and by radiation. It is estimated that among the skin cancers 75% deaths are accounted for melanomas only.
