Uses and Significance Of Cinnamon In Our Daily Life

Cinnamon, a spice is obtained from quills of Cinnamomum zeylanicum. Its production is carried out in Sri Lanka, China, India, Vietnam etc.

Its flavour is due to aromatic essential oils present in it. The chemical constituents which are present in Cinnamon are cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, beta-caryophyllene, linalool, ethyl cinnamate etc.

Cinnamon bark is used as spice in foods and is also used as a flavouring agent and condiment. As the essential oil contains anti-microbial properties, Cinnamon is used as preservative. It has anti-oxidant property and is also used as an insect repellant.

  • It is used for treating cold, tooth aches and for fighting bad breath.
  • It is used in the treatment of diarrhoea and other digestive disorders. It cures gas problems and stomach upset.

  • It is used to treat pimples and skin infections if mixed with honey and applied on the area.
  • When taken with tea, it controls blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
  • It has mild anti-inflammatory effect.
  • It is used for heart diseases, arthritis, bladder infections, hair loss, infertility, colds, tooth ache etc.
  • It develops resistance and improves immune system.
