15th Lok Sabha Elections in Andhra Pradesh 2009 Verdict

Andhra Pradesh has a total of 42 seats in the Lok Sabha. The UPA led by Congress swept 34 out of the the 42 M.P. seats from the state. A formidable third front consisting of the Telugu Desam Party and the Communists could notch up only 6 seats, out of which the latter contributed zero. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) joined the NDA after the Elections and it came up with a dissapointing 2 MP Seats only. New entrant Praja Rajyam Party under the leadership of Megastar Chiranjeevi, one of the most popular heroes in Telugu film industry could not even open his account!

Here is the breakdown of the seats won out of the 42 Lok Sabha Seats by the various parties in Andhra Pradesh:

  1. Indian National Congress (INC) – 33
  2. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) – 06
  3. Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) – 02
  4. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) – 01
