Karnataka remained loyal to the ruling BJP State Government under Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa. Despite made to look like a party of plain religious fanatics by their various opponents, it was the BJP that had the last laugh winning 19 out of the 28 Lok Sabha Seats in Karnataka.
It can be recalled that the BJP State Government was harassed left, right and centre by the Media and opposition parties relating to the Church attacks, Mangalore Pub attack and even the silliest of all – the Charlie Chaplin Controversy.
The Congress failed to cash in on the bad press given to the BJP and could only come up with 6 seats. The other main party – the JD(S) got three seats which includes its bastion of Hassan won by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.
Here is the breakdown of the seats won out of the 28 Lok Sabha Seats by the various parties in Karnataka:
- Bharatiya Janata Party - 19
- Indian National Congress – 06
- Janata Dal (Secular) - 03
