Former India Captain Mohammad Azharuddin has officially joined the Congress-I . Azhar met the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy and a couple of other prominent congress leaders including the Congress State affairs in-charge Veerappa Moily. Although Azharuddin had made the State of Andhra Pradesh proud by becoming the Captain of the Indian team, his reputation took a severe beating among the people because of his proven involvement in match fixing.
It is learnt that Azharuddin had met Sonia Gandhi somewhere during the month of October to express his interest in joining politics. The ex cricketer is likely to contest from the Nizamabad constituency in Andhra Pradesh as a Member of the Parliament. The Nizamabad constituency is located in the Telangana region of the state where there is quite a strong emotion for a separate Telanagana State.
The Congress will perhaps depend on Azharuddin to garner all the Muslim votes and defy the other parties which are supporting separate Telanagana state. The population of Muslims in the Telangana region is about 15% which makes Mohammad Azharudding a very good card for the Congress.
