Amar Singh has put another foot forward to annoy patriotic Indians by giving the Samajwadi Party ticket to Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from the Lucknow constituency. I will not be surprised if Sanjay Dutt aka Munnabhai even goes on to win the election as quite a lot of the educated people in India stay away from voting. I guess the people who are going to vote for Sanjay Dutt perhaps have no knowledge of his criminal offences!
It is a shame for all of us that a person who was convicted of possessing AK 47s and other weapons illegally could well represent us in the Parliament! To make matters worse, Sanjay Dutt had friendship with people like Dawood Ibrahim and Abu Salem in 1993 just before the serial blasts in Bombay and it was they who had given those weapons to Sanjay Dutt! Another crime was committed when Sanjay tried to get the evidence destroyed. Sanjay Dutt was already 34 years of age then and knew what all he was doing! He was also a drug addict in the past. The actor should have been behind the bars for a long time for his crimes but that hasn’t been the case. Had it been a common man other than Sanjay Dutt, then definitely the law would have taken its course but in his case it seems that justice was influenced because of his father’s high stature!
Has Sanjay Dutt faced the consequences of the crime that he had committed? Well not really, he had spent just 18 months in jail after getting arrested in 1993 before he got bailed out. Once he was out, Sanjay Dutt was back to a normal rich man’s life, acting in movies and earning crores of rupees to lead a cozy life and of course marrying twice after the death of his first wife. In 2006, he was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment for possessing illegal arms and out of that he served only 20 days or so before again getting bailed out! And now he is all set to join politics and serve the people on the request of his Bade Bhai Amar Singh! Great…the situation is really becoming hopeless in our country, where the rich can do whatever they want to and can always get away. On the other hand we have these politicians like Amar Singh whom we know are acting against the Nation’s interests but yet we cannot do anything.
Amar Singh and Sanjay Dutt argue that if Sidhu (BJP M.P from Amritsar and former India Cricketer), who was convicted of murder, can be allowed to contest the elections, then so can Sanjay Dutt. But here one should understand that Sidhu’s case was that of a culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Sidhu’s fatal punch had allegedly caused the death of a 66-year-old following a road rage in 1989). When the court decision came in 2006, Sidhu resigned as a MP on moral grounds and he appealed the verdict and the court stayed its decision. The former cricketer was accepted by the public as he won the re-election in Amritsar! The difference between Sidhu and Sanjay Dutt is that the former had committed an unintentional crime while the latter did something that was larger than crime by connecting with enemies of the country! Sidhu won the hearts of his country men with his patriotic knocks for India, especially the ones against arch-rivals Pakistan! Does Sanjay Dutt have the same following in people? I doubt as most of the people are condemning his entry into politics which is clearly evident in most of the popular News websites. Even if Sanju Baba is a real angel, he should consider the sentiments of people and back off especially after what all had happened in Mumbai a few days back.
It could either be the Supreme Court or the People of Lucknow who could play spoilsport to Sanjay Dutt’s plans. For Amar Singh, if it’s not Sanjay Dutt then it will be Manyata Dutt who will probably stand in the elections using her husband’s name. It doesn’t matter at all for Mr. Amar Singh, what matters is a MP seat for his party and why should he care to get a properly eligible candidate to serve the people?
