Australia are in the driver’s seat at 292 for 3 in their second innings with Opener Phil Hughes ending up with a century in each innings. Hughes is unbeaten on 136 as the Australians have picked up an overall lead of 506 with two full days in store!
South Africa had a disastrous morning as they couldn’t add a single run to their overnight total of 138 for 7 leaving Australia with a huge 214-run lead in the first innings. Apart from Phil Hughes, the other batsman to shine on Day 3 was Skipper Ricky Ponting who made 81. South Africa will find it tough to draw this second test at Kingsmead, if they lose it then they would be surrendering the series 0-2 with one more to play.
