Hosts Australia defeated West Indies by 47 runs in the Group A Match at the Drummoyne Oval in Sydney. Australia Women were asked to bat first and they came up with a good total of 211 for 7 in 50 overs. Windies lacked the firepower in their chase to end up with 164 for 7.
There were quite a few useful contributions in the Australian innings, none of the batswomen had gone onto score big. The contributors were Alex Blackwell (46* from 56 balls), opener Shelley Nitschke (45 from 60 balls), wicket keeper Jodie Fields (42 from 65 balls) and Ellyse Perry (36 from 35 balls).
For the West Indies, 17-year-old Deandra Dottin top scored with 51 from 54 balls with 4 sixers. Another 17-year-old Stafanie Taylor, the opener scored 32. The Player of the Match was Ellyse Perry who picked up two wickets to go along with her 36.
