India Women’s chances of making it to the Final of the Women’s World Cup died when they lost their crucial Super Six match against the New Zealand Women at the North Sydney Oval. New Zealand Women succesfully chased a moderate target of 208 with five wickets in hand and with 14 balls to spare.
Batting first, India Women were bowled out for 207 in just under 50 overs. Opener Anjum Chopra played a patient knock of 52 from 106 balls while Reema Malhotra came up with an energetic unbeaten 59 from 52 balls with 8 fours towards the end. Mithali Raj was the third highest scorer with 21.
The White Ferns were guided in their chase by opener Kate Pulford, who knocked off 71 from 88 balls (With 10 fours) out of a total of 109! After Pulford’s exit, it was upto No.3 Suzie Bates (47 not out from 65 balls) to see New Zealand through to victory. She was helped by a cameo of 23 from 16 balls played by Aimee Mason.
The Player of the Match went to Kate Pulford who also bowled extremely well to take 2 for 38 in her 10 overs early on to go along with her batting performance.
