ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2009 – New Zealand have narrow win over Australia

New Zealand won their Group A match against Australia by 13 runs according to the Duckworth Lewis Method in a rain-affected match at Sydney. Batting first, the New Zealand Women got bowled out for 205. Opener and Captain top scored with 57 from 113 balls.

Rain interrupted proceedings in the second half at the North Sydney Oval and that left the Aussies in a soup. The White Ferns were good enough to take the wickets and ensure that their opponents were not upto the D/L Target. Australia ended the match at 132 for 6 in 33 overs and were supposed to be 146  for 6 at that stage to win the match. The top scorer for the hosts was Shelley Nitschke who made 27. Kate Pulford was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 32. This medium pacer was also the Player of the Match.
