Virender Sehwag scored the fastest ever ODI hundred by an Indian which powered India to a cakewalk victory in the 4th ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton. India with this victory have sealed the 5-ODI Series 3-0. New Zealand did well to put up a good looking 270/5 in 47 overs but that total appeared to be too short with Virender Sehwag blasting the hapless bowling in the company of the solid Gautam Gambhir.
The fourth ODI saw a lot of rain interruptions which left India a difficult task. But not only did keep their wickets intact, the scoring rate was a lot higher than what was required. Towards the end, that is when rain had struck a final blow, India were ahead by the Duckworth Lewis Target by a comfortable 84 runs and without losing a single wicket. Virender Sehwag scored 125 from 74 balls with 14 fours and 6 sixes and Gautam Gambhir got 63 from 67 balls with 6 fours. India was at an intimidating 201 for no loss in 23.3 overs when the match was called off.
The top scorer of the New Zealand innings was Brendon McCullum who scored 77 from 95 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. He figured in a nice opening stand of 102 with Jesse Ryder, who made 46. The homeside failed to make most of this opening stand as their batsmen got stifled by the spinners. They had a good finish because of an unbroken 95-run stand in 10.1 overs between Peter McGlashan (56 from 42 balls with 6 fours and a six) and Grant Elliott (35 from 27 balls with 3 fours and a six).
