A major Earth quake of a magnitude of 7.7 struck in the Indian Ocean off Andaman Islands by 1:55 am on Tuesday.(1955 GMT on Monday).A Tsunami alert was first given to India, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh but later canceled. There were no reports of causalities or indication of Tsunami even after of two and half hours of the quake.
People of Diglipur, about 300 km (185 miles) north of Port Blair the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands ran out of the houses fearing for another earth quake.
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Pacific Tsunami Warning said that the sea level readings showed that there is no indication for generation of Tsunami. However they stated that water level changing’s being monitored in the region. During 2004 a major earth quake struck the islands with a Tsunami killing 2.28 lakh people.
