Well finally we feel the presence of Pratibha Patel as she has imposed President’s Rule in the troubled state of Jharkhand. It was a pity that the people of the state had to bear Shibu Soren as the Chief Mnister. Soren is a man with a pathetic criminal record, he was found guilty of kidnap and murder and is not one who is eligible to hold responsible positions in any government. The State Assembly of Jharkhand hasn’t been dissolved which is not a bad move as the MLA’s are all elected by the people and it was only the former Chief Minister Soren who had lost the by-election.
One should remember that Shibu Soren was given the post of the Union Minister for Coal in the present UPA Government! Soren was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006 following which he had to resign as the Coal Minister after pressure mounted on the Prime Minister to take action. Soren had held this office twice during this UPA tenure and twice he had to resign because of the criminal cases. Another charge on this Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader is that he was bribed to vote for the PV Narasimha Rao government during a no-confidence motion in 1993.
Well days after the Trust-vote in 2008, Soren had settled down as the Jharkhand Chief Minister as an exchange for voting for the UPA in the Indo-US Nuclear bill. People could clearly see what this man was upto and what he was. One cannot forget the visual of seeing Shibu Soren sleeping during the Parliamentary session!
I am really happy for the people of Jharkhand, in particular the voters of the Tamar Constituency. Democracy has indeed won as the people voted out Shibu Soren during a by-election. That is the verdict of the people that they are not going to stand for a criminal to serve them. I hope voters in other constituencies also give the same reply to such undeserving candidates.
Well Jharkhand became a state only in 2000 and has already seen as many as six Chief Ministers! Here is a look at that list:
1. Babulal Marandi (BJP, CM from 20 Nov 2000 to 18 Mar 2003)
2. Arjun Munda (BJP, CM from 18 Mar 2003 to 02 Mar 2005)
3. Shibu Soren (JMM, CM from 2 Mar 2005 to 12 Mar 2005)
4. Arjun Munda (BJP, CM from 12 Mar 2005 to 18 Sep 2006)
5. Madhu Koda (Independent Candidate, CM from 18 Sep 2006 to 26 Aug 2008)
6. Shibu Soren (JMM, CM from 27 Aug 2008to 13 Jan 2009)
