Atal Bihari Vajpayee is the first Prime Minister of India from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Vajpayee had three terms as the Prime Minister of India. The first one was an inforgettable one in 1996 as it lasted only 13 days having failed to prove majority in the Parliament. He again became the Prime Minister in 1998 leading a coalition party in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and his Government lasted 13 months this time. India went into general elections after the NDA had lost majority by just one vote in the Parliament.  Before that Vajpayee had succesfully led the country in the Kargil War against Pakistan. Following that success, the NDA won with a comfortable majority in the elections and the Government lasted its full term of 5 year. Vajpayee is credited as the 13th and the 16th Prime Minister of India.
