Chandra Shekhar was the 11th Prime Minister of India and was in office for a brief stint which lasted less than eight months. He had succeeded his rival in the Janata Dal – Vishwanath Pratap Singh in the office. Chandrasekhar had become the P.M just 3 days after the then Prime Minister V.P. Singh had lost the vote of confidence in 1991. He went onto float a new party altogether – the Samajwadi Janata Party and had just the 64 MPS along with him but had outside support from the Congress-I which helped him become the P.M.
