Morarji Desai is credited for forming the first non-Congress Government at the Centre following a massive defeat to the Congress Party after the infamous emergency period. He became the 6th Prime Minister of India. Despite getting a huge majority, Morarji Desai couldn’t keep his flock together to provide a strong governance and his tenture was cut short to just over two years. Morarji has a unique achievement that of receiving both the Bharat Ratna (India’s highest Civilian award) and the Nishaan-e-Pakistan (Pakistan’s highest Civilian award).
