South Africa ended Day 4 of the 1st Test on a promising note at 178 for 2 after they were given a target of 454. Skipper Graeme Smith led from the front scoring a solid 69. The South Africans had earlier bundled out the Aussies for 207 with Makhaya Ntini and Jacques Kallis picking up three wickets each. Debutant Phil Hughes was the top scorer of the Australian second innings with a neat knock of 75 with 11 fours and a six. This first Test is being played at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
