Rahul Dravid scores century in New Zealand

Rahul Dravid had a great warm-up ahead of the Test Series against New Zealand by scoring a century in a first class match at Rangiora. Dravid along with five others has got a wonderful opportunity of representing New Zealand first class teams ahead of the three-Test Series.

‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid is playing for Canterbury against Central Districts. Dravid scored an unbeaten 102 from 164 balls with 13 fours at stumps on the first day’s play. The Central Districts team has Indian leg spinner Amit Mishra, who went wicketless in his 28 overs which went for 101 runs. This match is being played at the Mainpower Oval in Rangiora.

In another match between Otago and Wellington at the University Oval in Dunedin, VVS Laxman could score just 20 (from 46 balls with 1 four) for Otago. However the match seems to be a low scoring affair. Guess what India’s Laxmipathy Balaji had the first use of the new ball for Wellington and he had figures of 15-4-39-1. No, Laxman didn’t get out to Balaji!

Well like Dravid, Laxman, Mishra and Balaji, there are couple of more Indian test players who will get a chance to play for the New Zealand state sides. They are uncapped Dhawal Kulkarni and the impressive opening batsman Murali Vijay who will be playing a four-day match starting on March 13th.
