Centuries from Kumar Sangakkara (104) and Thilan Samaraweera (133*) powered Sri Lanka to a commanding 317 for 4 on Day 1 of the second and final Test at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan had won the toss and had asked the Lankans to take first strike. The homeside gave Test Match debut for Mohammad Talha, a 20-year-old medium pacer.
Sri Lanka were in trouble at 35 for 2 and then at 96 for 3 and to end up with 317 for 4 was a huge achievement for the visitors. Mahela Jayawardene who would be stepping down from captaincy after this Test made 30. It was Umar Gul all the way for Pakistan taking three wickets while Yasir Arafat picked up the important wicket of Kumar Sangakkara.
