Slumdog Millionaire gets 10 Oscar Nominations!

Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, a British movie with an India centric theme has been nominated for 10 Academy Award winners (commonly known as the Oscars). One of the 10 nominations it received included the one for the Best Picture! The Slumdog Millionaire is competing with four other movies in the Best Picture Category.

India’s very own AR Rahman has made the country proud by getting three nominations, even if he wins one of them (most probably he could get an award for the Best Song as he has got two nominations in this category and his two songs are competiting with just another one song), he would have made history for his country! So far only one Indian has won an Oscar and that is Bhanu Athaiya who shared the 1982 Academy Award for Costume Design with John Mollo for their work in ‘Gandhi’. In 1992, veteran filmmaker Satyajit Ray was awarded an honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.

The winners of the 81st Academy Awards will be announced during the awards ceremony on the 22nd of next month in Hollywood, Los Angeles. All in all there are 24 Oscars to be given away along with a couple of more honorary awards.

Slumdog Millionaire has already won the Golden Globe Awards for the Best Picture in Drama while AR Rahman won the Golden Globe Award for the Best Original Score.
