Strauss guides England to 258/2 at Port of Spain

England in a must-win situation at Port of Spain finished Day 1 of the fifth and final Test at 258 for 2. Captain Andrew Strauss led from the front scoring an unbeaten 139 (from 261 balls with 11 fours). He is in an unbroken century stand with Paul Collingwood who is batting on 54. The going has been slow though for the English with the runs coming in 90 overs. They have plenty of batting left with no.3 Owais Shah retiring hurt because of cramps.

Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen were the only casualities for England, both got out cheaply. England had won the toss and elected to bat first, they are 0-1 down in this 5-Test Series. They are two debutants in this Test Match at the Queen’s Park Oval in batsman Lendl Simmons for West Indies, who has played few ODIs before and fast bowler Amjad Khan (from Denmark) for England.
