Newly elected Tekkali MLA K Revathipathi dies

The newly elected Congress MlA from Tekkali Constituency in Srikakulam district – Korla Revathipathi Rao expired yesterday. A doctor by profession, Revatipathi died of a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment in Care Hospital, Visakhapatnam. The MLA was 50 years old and is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.

Revathipathi was in the Telugu Desam Party previously, he got elected as a MLA in 1999. This was the second time that he got elected as a MLA, this time he represented Congress. Revathipathi was due to take oath as a MLA today. He had defeated K Acchannaidu of the TDP to win the Tekkali seat.

Congress was the most succesful party in the West Godavari district as it bagged 9 out of the 15 assembly seats here. TDP came second with 5 seats and PRP got one. West Godavari saw an embarassing defeat for the PRP founder Chiranjeevi who lost the contest at Palacole.

The Telangana district of Warangal was a closely fought contest between the Congress and the Maha Kutami. The ruling Congress won 7 out of the 12 assembly seats here. TDP won four seats while the PRP picked up a seat in this district.

Congress had the better in the Assembly elections in the Coastal district of Visakhapatnam by bagging 8 out of the 15 seats here. Chiranjeevi’s PRP won four seats while the TDP got success in three constituencies.

The ruling Congress party had a near clean sweep in the Coastal Andhra district of Srikakulam winning all but one seat in the 10 assembly constituencies here. The TDP picked up that lone remaining seat.

The Ranga Reddy district in the Telangana region saw the ruling Congress party do slightly better than its rivals. The Congress won half of the 14 assembly seats in the district. TDP won 5 seats while the remaining two seats went to Lok Satta and an Independent candidate.

The Rayalaseema district of Sri Potti Sreeramulu Nellore saw the TDP do better than its rivals. The Telugu Desam Party clinched half of the 10 seats in this district but the ruling Congress wasn’t too far behind as it won 4 seats. The remaining one seat was won by the new party – PRP.
