India celebrates its 60th Republic Day

India celebrated its 60th Republic Day today with the President Pratibha Patil taking the salute from marching contingents at the Rajpath in the National Capital New Delhi. The celebrations in New Delhi were held under extremely tight security conditions following yesterday’s encounter of two Pakistani terrorists in Noida which indicated a possible terror strike today. Vice-President of India

The Vice-President of India is the second-highest ranking official after the President in the Government of India. The main duty of the Vice-President is to preside over the meetings of the Rajya Sabha (which is the upper house of the Indian Parliament) as a Chairman. The Vice-President of India takes over as the President in the case of death, resignation or removal of the actual President.
