New Zealand have fought back superbly in the ongoing 3-Test Series through a strong batting performance in the opening day’s play of the second Test at Napier with a total of 351 for 4. It was also a great recovery from the Kiwis in the match as they were reduced for a paltry 23 for 3 on what looks like a batting friendly pitch. New Zealand had won the toss and elected to bat first.
Jesse Ryder scored a solid unbeaten 137 to support the free stroking Ross Taylor who smashes the Indian bowlers all over the park for 151. India had received a big jolt to this match when they lost Skipper MS Dhoni due to a back spasm. Virender Sehwag took over the captaincy whilst Dinesh Karthik took the wicket keeper’s spot. The Kiwis had replaced the injured Daniel Flynn with Jamie How and Kyle Mills with off spinner Jeetan Patel.
