Zaheer Khan took his 7th five-wicket haul which was instrumental in bundling out New Zealand for just 197. Zaheer’s wonderful spell of fast bowling powered India to a lead of 182 runs. The lead has now been stretched to 233 at close on Day 2 with the visitors putting up 51 for the loss of Sehwag in their second innings.
Earlier India had finished its first innings at 379. By lunch, India had the Kiwis on the backfoot at 64 for 2. The post lunch session saw saw further destruction from Zaheer Khan and then by Harbhajan Singh which saw the Kiwis reduced to 140 for 7by Tea with the only resistance coming from Ross Taylor, who made an attractive 42.
The final session saw the Kiwi innings coming to an end without much of a fightback. Zaheer finished with 5 for 65 and Harbhajan was second best with 3 for 43. India lost Sehwag through a nasty delivery from Chris Martin in their second innings. At stumps, the visitors have steadily moved onto 51 for 1 with Gambhir on 28 and Dravid on 9.
